Take a tip from brew meisters and commercial bottlers who do force carbonation for a living:Chill the liquid to almost freezing before doing this.Much more carbonation will be dissolved into the beverage.

I really, really like this thing. I mean, it is amazing. Shaking it around and watching the bubbles form was pretty cool, but you have to shake it so vigorously that it'd probably be a bad toy for a kid unless he/she has an adult around to do the shaking. I actually had to ask my boyfriend to finish shaking the raspberry tea I was trying to carbonate because I couldn't seem to shake it hard enough. The carbonation wasn't super strong, but it was definitely there, and it really did make the drink better. Sadly, the U-Fizz is very cheaply made. I was very careful with mine, and I washed gently after each of two uses, but the third time, a very crucial part of the contraption came loose, and now the whole thing is useless. Unfortunately, I don't even know how they could have made it less junky, because it is what it is - two bottle caps and a tube.

I teach chemistry and understand the science behind carbonation, so needless to say I was excited about getting this. The first time I used the kit, I didn't follow the directions completely--my drink wasn't chilled completely, and so it didn't get very carbonated. However, repeated attempts have left me disappointed with the results. I've followed the directions--fully refrigerated my drink, shook the bottle vigorously to dissolve the CO2 in the drink, swirled the vinegar/baking soda, etc. Unfortunately, the results have been less than satisfactory. At best, the drinks turned out moderately carbonated, and borderline flat. This product is nothing like using a well-designed carbonator or a Seltzer bottle. Also, like another reviewer, I would not call it a toy as it involves measuring and mixing.
