I was a long-time happy user of the SodaStream Pure. I had no complaints about it, but when the new SodaStream Source came out I was tempted by two things: the clean, modern design and the fact that bottles do not have to be screwed into the unit in order to carbonate the water. Having had the Source now for two months, I can say I am pleased with the appearance, but the design of the machine is fatally flawed.Inserting bottles into the unit, you clamp them down instead of screwing them in. Unfortunately, the unit does not make an airtight seal with any bottle. I have tried more than 10. After barely a few seconds of attempting to carbonate, the bottle begins leaking massive amounts of air and making a horrifically loud squealing noise. Once the air starts escaping, no gas goes into the water, so it is impossible to get more than the lightest fizz on this machine. It is a huge disappointment.Much as I hate to do it, I'll be pulling my old SodaStream Pure out of the basement and getting rid of the Source.

This is the most overpriced and under performing product I've ever purchased, and I'm nearly 70 years old. I live in a city of over a million, and no one locally refills the 130L carbinators. Ordering either the 60L or 130L from SodaStream is extremely expensive, and the empty carbinators are grossly overpriced. They charge $10 a bottle for their one liter storage bottles. The machine itself is poorly constructed from plastic. Costco only sells the kit with the 130L carbinator. I could go on and on, but I think the message is clear. This product uses a marketing process which tends to mislead the consumer into buying something which is much more expensive to use than initially promised. The markup on accessories can be more than 1000 times more expensive than the traditional market alternatives, and their proprietary accessories are booby-trapped so you are forced to buy their products. Don't buy. There are better alternatives if you want to save on the price of retail sodas. I am taking the time to write this review and post it to all versions of the SodaStream that Amazon sells because a company like this doesn't deserve to stay in business by preying on those of us who are concerned about our impact on the environment.Read the excellent review of the 130L carbinator for more detailed info on the product (I forget the reviewer's name, but it is the first one star review listed on 2/6/13).
